  Artist's Statement

"Painting is my way of inviting you to experience a part of my inner world. I paint to observe, learn, comprehend, discover, and react to reality.

In painting, I am particularly fascinated with light and color. I love to observe how light hits various objects and textures. And color is what really gets me going because color is dynamic, it makes me feel alive—it changes with time, lighting, perspective, and the perceptive senses of each individual. I also like the way I can make my brushes dance across my paper or canvas. Painting moves me—physically and spiritually."

Artist's Biography

Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Nataliya Tyaglo expressed her artistic talent at an early age. Beginning with human size stick figures on the walls of her mother’s one bedroom apartment at the age of three, today she is beginning to emerge as a Ukrainian-American artist in Northern California.

Influenced by her passion for the land during her early upbringing in small villages of Ukraine, she explores a variety of landscapes with her oils and watercolors. Her current infatuation with the ocean and large bodies of water as a SCUBA diver draws her to paint seascapes. Daily observations of city life motivate her to share experiences through a variety of mediums including oils, acrylics, watercolors, and pastels. Overall, she strives to decipher the mystique of her surrounding environments through her paintings.

Her work has been exhibited throughout California including exhibitions at the , M.H. de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Metreon, PBOE Elks Club, Live Worms gallery, and Café Roma in North Beach. She is the recipient of many awards including merit recognition from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and she is a 1st place winner of the 2006 Arte de Gesso competition.

Currently residing in Berkeley, Nataliya finds inspiration for her artwork in the daily scenes of the Bay Area and the California shores.
